Keyboard

Switchify PC has its own on-screen keyboard that scans with your switches. It is not the operating system’s on-screen keyboard, it never takes focus, and it does not accept mouse clicks.

Open it from Home, from the point scan action menu, from the mouse panel, or with a switch set to Open keyboard. The text goes wherever the cursor already is.

Rows highlight in turn. Press Select on a row, then on a key. The escape slot at the end of a row returns to the rows. After a key, scanning starts again from the first row, or from the key you just typed if you set Start again from to where I selected in Settings.

The keyboard stays open after Space, Backspace, Enter and Tab, so you can keep writing. Close takes you back to wherever you opened it from: the mouse panel, Home, or the scan you were in.

Choose in Settings or from the keyboard’s footer:

  • QWERTY, the full layout.
  • Simple QWERTY, fewer keys per row.
  • Common letters first, the most used letters nearest the start of each scan.
  • Letters, with punctuation.
  • Navigation: Escape, F1 to F12, arrows, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Delete and more.
  • Numbers, including currency symbols.

Shift, Ctrl, Alt (Option on a Mac) and Windows (Command on a Mac) each cycle through off, once and locked. Caps locks capitals.

Switchify PC puts the space before and after punctuation for you, and capitalises the next letter after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.

Backspace, Delete, the arrows, Tab, Page Up and Page Down can repeat while you hold the switch.

Dock the keyboard to any of nine positions on the display. It keeps working when you switch apps, and it refits itself if the taskbar or Dock changes.
